People’s Choice Dining 2009: The Results!

Although it’s certainly the case that Japanese food has gained in popularity over the past decade, it can still be hard to grasp overall trends and to gain that all-important consumer feedback. To this end, between July and December 2009, our sister site Eat-Japan asked people in the UK to choose their favourite Japanese restaurants in a number of different categories for the inaugural People’s Choice Dining Awards. The results, announced last month, are of particular interest to food and drink professionals involved in Japanese food, as they reveal what’s hot right now and how things may change in the future market.

First KOJ Koshu Tasting held in London

Yamanashi Prefecture, in the heart of Japan, is fast building a reputation as the home of wine-making in a country more often associated with rice-based alcohol. Koshu of Japan (KOJ) is an association of 15 wineries from the Yamanashi area, established to promote the region and its premium wine to overseas consumers. KOJ has recently launched efforts to showcase Yamanashi wine to what could be its most critical market, Europe, where so much great wine is made, and the UK, where so much great wine is drunk.

‘Oishii JAPAN’ at MasterChef Live (A BBC GoodFood Production)

MasterChef Live a BBC GoodFood Production, previously the BBC Good Food Show London, is the U.K.’s biggest food and drink show for consumers. Now directly linked with MasterChef, the country’s most popular TV cookery show and a platform which has launched many a successful career, it proved better than ever, with thousands of visitors making the trip to London’s Olympia on November 13-15, 2009. One of the highlights of the show was the ‘Oishii JAPAN’ programme of events, which included the Eat-Japan Sushi Awards and the ‘Oishii’ Pavilion.
