A Message on Earthquake and Tsunami-affected Japan
EAT JAPAN Trade News
Sunday, 27 March 2011

Japan's northern region of Tohoku was struck by a massive earthquake on Friday 11 March, followed by a devastating tsunami which has caused significant destruction and loss of human life, particularly around Pacific coastal areas. Eat-Japan extends its deepest sympathy to all those affected by these natural disasters, and supports Japan in its earliest possible recovery. Although Japan's infrastructure is one of the best equipped in the world to deal with the seismic activity that regularly affects the country, the scale of this most recent earthquake, the continuing aftershocks, and above all the devastation caused by the tsunami, against which little infrastructural protection can be put in place, have left many hundreds of thousands of Japanese either temporarily or permanently homeless, without access to adequate medical supplies and treatment, and with no water or electricity. A number of organisations are now collecting donations to help Japan recover from this unprecedented natural disaster. If you would like to help, you can donate via the British Red Cross.

The Eat-Japan Japanese Food Trade Directory will keep you updated on the situation regarding food and drink trade news in post-natural disaster Japan, and we hope that everyone outside of Japan affected by this will also be well on the way to recovery soon.
