After producing Western mustard in a tube in 1970, S&B Foods Inc. developed wasabi paste in a tube – the first product of its kind in the Japanese market – in 1972. Since then, S&B Foods has gained the top share in the retail market in Japan as well as the worldwide wasabi market. In 2008, S&B Foods re-launched wasabi paste 43g, as well as wasabi powder in a 30g tin, and now has a new product on the European market: Wasabi Sauce 170g.
Established in 1905, Tokyo Kaneku uses no genetically modified ingredients in the production of its wasabi and gari. Packaged in convenient 5g sachets, Tokyo Kaneku wasabi works to boost appetite and remove the odour of raw fish, and has strong anti-bacterial properties. The delightfully pungent gari, available in a range of packaging, is the perfect partner for sushi, freshening the palate between bites to better savour the unique taste of each piece.
A favourite condiment for a wide range of dishes, wasabi-zuke is made from wasabi marinated in salt and sake lees, the sediment from sake which has been aged for six months. This ensures optimum fermentation to bring out a robust wasabi flavour; made from specifically selected ingredients, "Kinshirushi" (Gold Grade) is the finest among our varieties of wasabi-zuke. Wasabi is an indigenous Japanese vegetable enjoyed since ancient times and recent studies have demonstrated the positive health effects of both it and sake lees.
